What is “viral marketing”?
Commonly referred to as “word-of-mouth” or “network” marketing, viral marketing is a consumer-driven technique that encourages individuals to spread the marketer’s message to their social networks, creating the potential for exponential growth in the message’s reach. It’s the marketing discipline of the digital age and is becoming increasingly popular in book promotion.

How is viral marketing different from traditional literary publicity campaigns?
With viral marketing, you provide free products, services or ideas and hope that the public will pass them along to pre-existing networks. Unlike regular television interviews, we will “pre-package” the interview in order to control the message, and then we’ll distribute throughout the Internet. Once the marketing video is distributed online, it is optimized with search engines, filtered through your MySpace and Facebook pages and pitched to blogs and other websites that target a specific demographic. Because of the “viral” nature of this campaign, your message has the potential to reach a greater number of people than it would with a single radio, or television interview.

Beyond this campaign, are there other ways I can use my video and audio clips?
Other uses for this pre-packaged interview can include:
1. PR kits
2. Presence on author websites, publisher websites, bookseller websites
3. Packaged with the book or an additional voiceover introduction to an audio book
4. Reel for shows, speaking engagements and conventions
5. Use as a pitch tool for radio or TV interview invitations

What does P&P’s Online Video PR Campaign include?

  • A television shoot at P&P’s production studio. P&P will organize, shoot, edit and package a television interview for use by the author and publicist during this campaign. This campaign includes a 15-minute television interview, a two-minute introduction to the book and a one-minute author bio, all perfect for adding visual elements to your website. Other uses for this pre-packaged interview can include:
    • PR kits
    • Presence on author websites, publisher websites, booksellers websites
    • Packaged with the book or an additional voiceover introduction to an audio book
    • Presence on MySpace, Facebook and other relevant social networking sites
    • Reel for shows, speaking engagements and conventions
    • Use as a pitch tool for radio or TV interview invitations
  • Online distribution of the video. This is where the viral marketing begins! P&P will make the video available online at sites like YouTube, Yahoo! Video, GodTube (if applicable) and others.

Phenix & Phenix is also in discussion with Web 2.0 TV about launching a book channel. Once we have enough footage from various clients, your video will be added to this new network and made available 24/7. Once this channel is live, Web 2.0 TV will:

    • Be available on Web2point0.TV’s network through the author/book specific TV channel
    • Be pushed through an online distribution network that includes YouTube and other viral media channels.
    • Be pushed through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) channels for high rankings and visibility on Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines.
    • Offer social networking opportunities and allow viewers to comment around interview material. This is essential in developing relationships and staying in touch with fans.
    • Allow interviews to be embedded in Facebook and MySpace for viral sharing.
    • Be made available 24/7 for viewing.
  • We will build you a Facebook and MySpace page featuring your taped interview. The viral marketing continues by establishing a presence for you on the two largest social networking sites. The sites will be focused on your book and will also include initial efforts to ‘jump’ your network by connecting you to other contacts. Such social networking pages will allow you to network online.
  • One month online publicity campaign from Phenix & Phenix. P&P will roll-out a focused effort to promote your book online to blogs, websites, forums and other internet opportunities. This campaign will include:
