It is hard to find good publicity help from outside firms. We should know—we work with major publishers around the country, and they tell us we stand out from the crowd. As a firm focused on providing results-driven publicity for top houses, we cater our skilled services to the specific needs of our clients by providing author management, weekly campaign reports, media training, excellent media contacts, consulting on new projects, and a high level of communication.

We take the same approach to building relationships with publicity directors and their authors that we do with the media contacts we’ve been working with for years. In addition to detailed weekly campaign reports and interview schedules, we provide consistent communication that keeps our clients up-to-date on the progress of their campaign. By focusing on communication during each campaign that we run, we look not only to execute a successful launch, but also to establish a long-term client.

Our team has active accounts with many of the nation’s top publishers, from major CBA houses like Thomas Nelson and B&H Publishing Group to secular houses like St. Martin’s Press. We execute national campaigns for front list titles as well as publicity campaigns for long term, multi-book contracts. Media campaigns may also be adapted to focus on a specific timeline, special event or multi-city book tour.

Full-Service Publicity Campaigns
Our full-service publicity campaigns incorporate print, radio, television and online media contact at the local, regional and national level. Our publicity campaigns typically range from two to six months.  However, we have the ability to tailor our campaigns to each author or publishers’ unique requirements.  The campaign timeline recommended for each book accepted by our team depends on our analysis of the author’s credentials and media potential of the book’s message.

Campaign Management
Each media campaign is assigned a publicist who serves as the campaign manager for the duration of the contract.  We carefully select the campaign manager best suited to meet each author’s specific objectives.  Our publicists have one of the lowest author/publicist ratios in the industry, which allows for personalized attention, ongoing feedback and detailed weekly reporting.

Strategy Development
Our publicity team begins each campaign with a strategic brainstorming session to discuss competitive titles, author positioning, campaign messaging, potential target markets, target media, and tactical timelines. With this input, the campaign manager formulates a comprehensive strategic plan that guides the course of the entire campaign.  We look to our authors and publishing clients for suggestions and input, and our clients retain final approval of the strategic plan for their campaign.

Press Materials
Press materials are the foundation of a successful publicity campaign and are drafted in accordance with strict media specifications.  They are designed to pique the interest of relevant media and encourage them to request a review copy of a book or an author interview.  Our publicists are skilled in writing for this unique and highly critical audience and have a strong track record of crafting compelling materials that result in media opportunities for authors.  Press materials may include:

  • Author biography
  • Associated Press (AP) style press release for print and online media
  • Broadcast press release for radio and television outlets
  • Trade information sheet
  • Sample media question

Press Kit Production
We believe in producing the highest quality publicity campaigns for our authors and these include professionally designed press kits.  Our press kits are composed of a custom-designed folder that highlights the Phenix & Phenix brand and showcases each book we represent.

We find that a professional press kit is a valuable tool when working with some of the top media outlets around the country. Since they have been working with our staff for years, they know each time they open a P&P press kit they are going to find a credentialed author with a timely message that relates to their demographic.

Media Relations
In our 13-year history, we have worked with hundreds of daily and weekly newspapers; national, regional and local magazines; radio and television stations across the country and online publications.  Click here to read a list of sample media outlets that we have worked with in the past.

Our proprietary database contains more than 500,000 accredited media contacts. Based on the campaign strategy, Phenix & Phenix will contact those journalists and media contacts representing the best opportunity for print, radio, television and online media exposure for authors in any of the following forms:

  • Book reviews
  • Feature stories
  • Print interviews
  • Radio interviews
  • Television interviews
  • Online interviews
  • Expert source commentary
  • Calendar listings
  • Book excerpts
  • Event media
  • Online Press Room
As a client of Phenix & Phenix, each author is added to our virtual pressroom that may be viewed by media around the world 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The author presence includes an image of the book cover, author photo, press release, and author bio that media sources may download directly from the site.  Search engine positioning also ensures that your press materials remain accessible to anyone looking for information about your book on the Web long after its initial release.

    Clipping Service
During the course of our clients’ media campaigns, our clipping service searches for occurrences of the author’s name and book title in newspapers, magazines, and a wide range of other print publications across the country. Our service mails us original copies of book reviews and feature stories, which upon receipt, are forwarded to the author.  Visit our pressroom to view sample clips from recent campaigns.

    Media Training
Spokesperson training is essential to ensure the successful delivery of an author’s message to the media.  Leveraging our media and book industry expertise, we conduct an all-day media training workshop for each of our authors in our Austin office.  The curriculum includes breakout sessions covering each media genre: print, online, radio and television.  Authors participate in several off and on-camera mock interviews that are critiqued by our publicity team and used to help each author develop their message and identify effective sound bytes.
